These collars are ordered by length of the leather, and the fully opened internal circumference is usually about 2″ (5cm) less than the length of the leather, so make sure the length you choose is big enough to pass comfortably over your dog's head, as they do not open out flat. They are a type of choker collar, so are not recommended to leave on your dog when it's unsupervised - you may find the collar comes off over the head (& gets eaten!!) or there is a risk of strangling if the collar gets caught up on anything!
Sizing - The length of the collar is the measurement of the leather excluding the rings so make sure you can comfortably pass this over your dog's head as it cannot be opened! Fitted and used correctly, these collars should be positioned at the top of the neck, just behind the ears so this is where you need to measure for size. For most dogs, the sizing is similar to that of a buckled collar so measure your dog's neck then add 4" (10cm) and this should be the length you need to order - please check on larger breeds as you may need to allow extra length to fit over the head! Try it out with a piece of cord or a soft tape measure if your dog will play this game.....
